Nola, City View Book Illustration The map depicts Campania, centering on Nola but including the region from the Bay of Naples to the Apennines, and from Acerra to Sarno. The Sorrentine Peninsula is on the bottom right. Prominent landmarks, including Vesuvius, important rivers, the city of Naples and Monte Posillipo (bottom left) are featured.
Nola, City View Book Illustration The plan shows "modern" Nola according to its 16th c. topography, encompassed by an idealized, circular plan of the ancient city, into which are evenly spaced 12 ancient gates with their ancient roads. Within the circular plan are marked ancient monuments: temples, amphitheater, baths. Outside the western gate, along the Via Neapolitana, are marked ancient tombs.
Nola, City View Book Illustration Page of drawings providing measurements of the 16th c. plan of Nola, along with what appears to be modular geometrical scale drawings of important monuments not named, including one that appears to be the cathedral. Below the plan are scales, and above a measurement of the wall circuit as of c.1514: "ambitus 924 pass."
