| Description | This large and important Benedictine Abbey was destroyed in the seventeenth century. It was a basilica with two side aisles, a shallow transept and three elongated apses. Other monastic buildings were located around the cloister of irregular shape. The structure was altered (reduced in size and moved westwards) in the reconstruction following the 1659 earthquake. Some of the spolia reused in the construction of the medieval building are still visible among the remains. |
